Uric acid is converted by uricase to allantoin and peroxidase, which under the catalytic action of peroxidase (POD), an oxidizing agent, reacts with 4-aminophenazone and 3,5-dichlorophenol-sulphonate to form a red compound. The intensity of the color formed is measured and is proportional to the concentration of uric acid in the sample.
